WinTV NOVA-T gives you a freeview PVR on your PC for £17.99

If you've been tempted to buy a dedicated PVR (Personal Video Recorder) to record your favourite TV programs easily, then why not use your computer's power? The WinTV Nova-T USB2 stick is the easiest way to convert your PC into a PVR and it's now reduced on Amazon to £17.99 (was £34.95). Just plug the USB stick into your computer, install the drivers, plug-in an aerial (either the supplied mini aerial, or your main roof aerial, which gives the best picture) and you've got TV on your PC. Then you're all set to watch and record DVB-T FreeView and radio. With the WinTV-scheduler, you can then check out the week's viewing and automate your computer to record your favourite programs on a daily or weekly schedule whilst you're out enjoying yourself! Playback is high quality MPEG-2 format, which allows you to easily scan through a program if you want to avoid adverts.

If you want to extend the recording capabilities of this setup, there are several free PVR programs available to download like MediaPortal, which gives you a Windows MediaCenter feel. Say goodbye to PVRs.

Technical requirements:
  • Minimum processor recommended
  • 2.0 Ghz P4 or equivalent (2.8 GHz processor for analogue TV recording with MPEG-2)
  • Microsoft Windows XP service Pack 2
  • USB 2.0 port
  • CD-ROM drive (for software installation)
  • The WinTV-NOVA-T stick includes a portable digital terrestrial antenna, which can be used when traveling. When used in the home or office, we recommend a high gain roof top digital antenna
  • Some viewers will need to replace their areials to receive digital transmissions if the installation is old or in poor condition
  • Digital Terrestrial coverage is improving all the time as digital terrestrial television transmitters are continuously being updated. However it may take some time for coverage to reach particular areas of the country.
